Description
The Navy League is the foremost United States citizens' organization to serve, support, and stand with all of the U.S. sea services - the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and the U.S. flag Merchant Marine. The Navy League has a network of 250 councils representing nearly 50,000 members. The Pacific Merchant Marine Council having received its charter 11 December 2006 is one of the newest! The active membership has grown well above the initial 44 charter members to 110.
The council hosts quarterly luncheon meetings with noted guest speakers aboard the National Liberty Ship Memorial SS JEREMIAH O'BRIEN, Pier 45, San Francisco and elsewhere in the region. The gathering time is 11:30 am for the social and noon for the luncheon. All are welcome. Paid reservations by check are appreciated.
We enthusiastically welcome new members regardless of nationality and invite participation as "Citizens in Support of the Sea Services." Being a sailor or veteran is not a prerequisite. Be as active or inactive as you choose. The emphasis of this council is to support the U. S. flag Merchant Marine, U. S. citizen crews, the nation's maritime industry and the maritime trade organizations. Membership with NLUS and the council is $125 US for three years. For 2011 we are offering a three year membership, in cases of financial hardship, at a discount.
Online, visit the Navy League's website, http://www.navyleague.org. For the Pacific Merchant Marine Council its website, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PMMC-NLUS, is a primary means of communications with the membership and public. Council internet pages are also to be found on Facebook, Linkedin, Professional Mariner, and elsewhere.
