At present in 2008 salaries of crew as well as Officers have almost quadruppled in "Internetional Shipping" and yet there seems to be a shortage of "OFFICERS", especially engineers. Reasons are easy to fathom for "Ancient Mariner officers" who have witnessed the early 1980's "World-Wide Slump" with "C/Eng" certified officers sailing as "3rd Engineer officers" and manny "Cadets" literally quitting "Sea-Life" after organising failed "Morcha's" to "Directorate General Of Shipping Office" to get employment on board ships as "3rd officers". In 2008, manny of these "Veteran officers and cadets" might be cursing their luck for being "Born in the Right profession at the Wrong Time". Today "JOB SATISFACTION" seems to aflict the "Merchant Navy profession" as even with "Money,Money,Money" increase in wages there is still a shortage of 'SKILLED CERTIFIED OFFICERS" ,a total reverse of the 1980's malady. AS for me, an albatross always seems to beckon me to the sea since i joined the Merchant Navy in 1983 and still growing young in 2008!
