Kanha National Park is a National Tiger Reserve located in Balaghat and Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh, India. In the 1930’s the Kanha area was divided into two sanctuaries, Banjar and Hallon, of 250 and 300 km square. The Kanha National Park that was created on 1st June 1955 stretches over an area of 940 km square in the two district of Balaghat and Mandla. Along with the surrounding buffer zone of 1067 km square and the adjoining 110 km square Phen Sanctuary it forms the Kanha Tiger Reserve. This makes it the largest National Park in Central India. The park has a thick population pressure of Leopard, Royal Bengal Tiger, Sloth Beer, Indian Wild Dog and Barasingha. Flora of Kanha National Park
Kanha National Park is the home for around 200 species of flowering plants. The lowland forst is actually a mixture of sal and other mixed forest trees, interspersed with meadows. And the highland forests are actually tropical moist dry deciduous type of absolutely different nature with bamboo in the slopes. Kanha Tiger Reserve is filled with meadows which are actually open grasslands that have sprung up in the field of evacuated villages. There are many villages which have been emptied to make way for wild animals. There are actually many species of grass that have been found at Kanha. Dense forestation and good crown cover makes the place apt for shrubs and climbers to grow in full flow. Fauna of Kanha National Park
Tiger is the majestic species at Kanha. Leopards and big cats are the tertiary carnivore in the food chain. Apart from that, wild cat, fox and jackal are also found commonly at Kanha. Among the species of deer, Swamp Deer or the Hard Ground Barasingha is the main attraction of the place. The animal is adapted to topography of the place, unlike the swamp Deer which live in marshy swamps. This national park has been instrumental in restoring the rehabilitation process of the “Swamp Deer” which was at the verge of extinction. The Gaur or Indian Bison is in reality an ox race it is found in Kanha. It is mostly found in the winter months, but in summers the gaur inhabits water holes and meadows. wildlife tour packages
The common features of the park animals are sambar, spotted deer, four horned deer, barking deer. The latter can be found at Bamni Dadar climb. Recently mouse deer has been discovered in the tiger reserve. Due to unsuitable environment the Black Buck did not survive here. Nilgai can be seen near the Sarahi Gate while Indian Wolf once commonly seen at Mocha is a rare sight now. Hyena and sloth bear can also be seen with luck. elephant safari india

Nocturnal animals like, jungle cat, civets, fox, hyena, porcupine, ratel or honey badger and hares can also be seen outside the confines of the park.
Reptiles Python, Rat Snake, Viper, Cobra, Krait, Keelbacks, Grass snakes etc are nocturnal animals very rarely seen. There are also many species of turtles as well as amphibians found in or near the water bodies. palace on wheels
