GUIDELINES REVISED FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE CARGO SECURING MANUAL

CSS Code amended, Guidelines for Preparation of Cargo Securing Manual
revised. In accordance with regulations VI/5 and VII/5 of the 1974 SOLAS Convention,
as amended, cargo units and cargo transport units shall be loaded, stowed and secured
throughout the voyage in accordance with the Cargo Securing Manual approved by the
Administration, which shall be drawn up to a standard at least equivalent to the guidelines
developed by the Organization.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) issued MSC Circular 1352 for
the amendments to the Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing
Manual (CSS); in particular new provisions for safe access for lashing of
containers. The contents of the circular are self-explanatory. In relation
to the CSS Code, the Guidelines for the Preparation of the Cargo Securing
Manual have also been revised to take into account the amendments made to
the CSS Code. The revised guidelines are issued via MSC Circular 1353 which
supersedes MSC/circ. 745.
