Being There for Them..

This post is for all the merchant navy officer's wives/girlfriends. That the profession is very demanding and challenging is like stating the obvious. I can tell as i am a second officer's wife whose husband is currently sailing. Sometimes it might just take a toll on your family life as well. But we should all stop and think for a moment about the positives of this profession which people refuse to sometimes discuss or state. Firstly they are getting paid a lot more than their counterparts on land. All the wives know that their husbands enjoy the NRI/NRE status.Secondly, nobody ever talks about the long periods of time that these guys get to spend at home with their families, without worrying about bosses phone call or any other deadline to meet or projects to finish. When they are on land, they are there 24*7 with us, which is great. So much quality time can be used constructively in more ways than one. Thirdly, companies do allow wives to travel with their husbands on ship. Once on board, it is a whole new experience to gain and the shopping done and places visited is an added bonus. Last but certainly not the least point is, to quote William Shakespeare, distance does makes the heart grow fonder. Everytime he disembarks from the ship, he brings with him so much joy, happiness and peace. The excitement of meeting his family and spending so much of fun time with them makes him forget all those months of painful separation. All these aspects does make this profession,if not less challenging, but definitely  a more endearing one. So lets all BE THERE for these navy guys whenever they need us..morally,emotionally and physically.

Nice blog. Have you got a chance to sail anytime with your husband? It would be interesting to know about your experience.

Very well written.. Distance is always not thought of as a good thing for relationships in general, but this article depicts how even that could be seen in a completely different way.. Just shows the other side of the coin which many may miss.. The positivity shown could well be a reason for a smile on all other sailors' wives and for them to feel "all is well".. In all, - a real wife's perspective well conveyed... If only every wife was so understanding and supportive !! :-)
